Commonplace — Privacy Policy

Effective October 11, 2026

Commonplace is a Chrome extension that saves the page you are viewing to a note in Apple Notes on your Mac, with the help of a small Mac app, Commonplace Helper. The short version: everything stays on your Mac, and nothing is sent to me or anyone else.

What Commonplace reads

Where that data goes

When you click Save, the extension passes the page title, URL, timestamp and your quick note to Commonplace Helper on your Mac, which adds them to the note you chose. To do that, it briefly places the entry on your clipboard and pastes it into Apple Notes, then restores your clipboard's previous contents.

The list of note and folder names, your last-used folder and note, and your settings are stored only in Chrome's local storage for the extension, on your device.

Commonplace makes no network requests. It has no server of its own, and no analytics, tracking, advertising or third-party scripts. Nothing is sent to the developer or any third party, and nothing is sold or used for advertising. Apple Notes may sync your notes through iCloud according to your own Apple settings; Commonplace has no part in that.

Removing your data

Uninstalling the extension deletes its local storage. Deleting Commonplace Helper removes everything else Commonplace installed (see how to remove it). The entries you saved stay in your notes until you delete them.

Chrome Web Store User Data Policy

Commonplace's use of information complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new effective date.
